krishna das interview gratitude

Monday, March 15th, 2010

hi y’all. fyi, my latest–an interview for beliefnet with chant master krishna das–“krishna das’s chants for love.”

here’s a snippet:

Do you feel it’s necessary to have a guru or a spiritual teacher to walk a spiritual path?

Absolutely not…. Everybody has their own guru inside, and that’s their own heart, their own being. The longing that everybody has to find that love and joy and happiness and live a good life, that longing is the guru.

You don’t have to wait for somebody to push a button for it to start. It’s already started, and you can’t make it go faster and you can’t slow it down. Everybody’s unfolding at their own rate. Sometimes a teacher will arise, and the teacher is very different than a guru. A teacher is somebody who teaches you something. A guru is a mirror that shows you the love that lives inside of you.

So, you really don’t need anything other than to try to wake up in your life right as it is now. You don’t need to wait for anybody to tell you. You already have it. It’s inside of everyone. Without that spark of love, spark of God, or spark of divinity or presence, we wouldn’t exist.

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

hi lovies. i’m a little overbooked these days, but the gratitude must go on. it’s amazing really, how i feel it when i don’t do these for a while. like i start to get that empty well feeling. like a low slow yowl of need starts to rouse when i forget how blessed i am. remembering that one thing is everything.

i am grateful for:

1) electricity

2) that i get to do work i love sometimes

3) feeling hopeful

4) how cancer has sort of ebbed for me lately. just the anxiety, the worrying, the death-obsessing. it’s all there, i’m sure, but maybe i’m digesting pieces of it.

5) interviewing krishna das last week–will have interview soon. yay! and he’s got a new album out today. so good, so excited.

6) going to kirtan tomorrow night with bc. here’s hoping he’s not freaked by my chant-o-rama-ram, ram, ram-ness.

7) my malas that i made, i feel like linus with them lately.

8) no tsunamis in hawaii. so so so whew.

9) headlines today about the earthquake actually having shifted the earth’s axis. because, i mean, really? and how can you worry about much when the earth just moved? we are all made of stars.

10) the orchid show is back! i love those crazy-weird patterned alien-faced, vulva-shaped, bizarro fleurs

11) noticing more and more when i am not noticing
